Larry Robbins OBE JP FNI Personal Statement
I enjoyed a career at sea with the British Merchant Navy and Royal NZ Navy, rising to the rank of commander and position as Hydrographer of the RNZN. After 30 years at sea I left the Navy to head up the NZ National Maritime Museum. I joined the museum at an interesting time in its development. With the Chairman I formulated a plan to stabilise operations, develop a business plan and then move the museum forward. In the process we stabilised the operation, and built links into the community and local and national government - working both nationally and internationally with museum colleagues.

I have always been active in non-profit organisations and member-organisations and have held a number of positions in clubs and societies. In mid 2007, I retired from the museum after nearly 8 years to pursue other interests and to devote some 'quality time' to my non-profit interests. My combination of experience allows me a unique perspective. My specialisation in the Navy (hydrography) - along with a natural bent - leads to a hands-on approach. However I also have some experience in the more corporate world. I have mixed and worked with folk at all strata of society. I offer my skills in the various areas of my experience and expertise as consultant, or on a freelance/project basis.
